Celebrating 20 Years of Service to the Great Lakes
Dear Friends,
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Great Lakes Observing System (GLOS), and I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come—and more energized than ever for what’s ahead.
For two decades, GLOS has worked to ensure that everyone who depends on the Great Lakes—from commercial shippers to beachgoers and drinking water managers—has access to reliable, real-time data, when and where they need it most. Whether it’s supporting safe navigation, protecting public health, or providing critical information for emergency response, GLOS plays a vital role in keeping the Great Lakes safe.
As we look to the future, we’re continuing to grow—revisiting our mission and values, expanding our team, and investing in the technologies and talent needed to meet emerging challenges.
Our team is committed to maintaining our observing systems and data platform Seagull. We’re also focused on ensuring long-term sustainability, including new fundraising efforts that will help keep this vital work going strong for decades to come.
We’re grateful for our partners—across the basin and across sectors—who make this work possible. Throughout this anniversary year, we’ll be sharing stories that highlight your impact and celebrate our shared vision for a safer, more resilient Great Lakes region.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Here’s to the next 20 years of science, stewardship, and service.
Sincerely,
Jen
